LS., is there any way to search in file names only (no file content)? Both in Start Menu as in Explorer it would be great to heve the possibility to choose. Thanks. Peter |

For Start Menu, open Classic Start Menu Settings and go to the "Search Box" tab. Uncheck the option "Search contents" which appears below "Search files". For Explorer, open Folder Options/File Explorer Options. Go to the Search tab and uncheck "Always search file names and contents". Windows still indexes contents of certain file types. To stop that, go to Indexing Options (in Control Panel) and click the Advanced button. Go to the File Types tab and set all extensions to "Index Properties only". To exclude a particular file or folder's contents from being indexed, open its Properties and go to the General tab. Click Advanced and uncheck "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file properties". Note that this only excludes that specific file's contents from being indexed unlike the Control Panel option which can prevent indexing of contents on a per file type/extension basis. |

Thanks. It would be nice to have the option at hand somewhere, because I alternate between both modes and have no time to back and forth to the menu. Maybe an extra button in at least explorer? |

Explorer already has this option. Click inside the search box of Explorer and then click the "Search" tab of the Ribbon. Under "Advanced options", it is there. |

Windows Search isn't very good. I would recommend you to use free alternatives like Everything (http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-find-any ... verything/) (Download here: http://www.voidtools.com/) or another one called FileLocator Lite (https://www.mythicsoft.com/filelocatorlite). |

They are standalone programs. Having them installed should not affect any other programs. You can make them work with Classic Shell by setting them up as a Search Provider: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1588#SearchProviders |

They are standalone, but can be used in classic shell with modifiers. See Usage examples; in classic shells help document, under the search page IE; once setup; you can type your search into classic shell, then click a button that says 'search with Everything' which will forward your query |

To search any folder, add that folder path to Indexing Options in Control Panel, OR add it to a Library using Explorer. Then it will be indexed and searchable from the Start Menu. |
