This is a Feature Request.

I run Windows 7 x64.

In the Settings for Classic Start Menu 4.2.4 --> Start Menu Style tab, I have selected Classic style. In the Controls tab, Windows Start Menu is the default start menu. In the list of ...opens: items, I have selected Windows Key opens: Classic Start Menu and Shift+Win opens: Windows Start Menu.

In the Windows Start Menu tab, I have the Cascading All Programs menu set to Initially focus on: All Programs. For me, this initial focus is very productive for quickly displaying the All Programs menu.

Because I want to alter and use the Classic Start Menu, I would like it to also place the initial focus on All Programs, which it does not do now. In fact, the initial focus does not appear anywhere, as repeatedly pressing the Return key produces no response.

You can do a simple trick to quickly show the All Programs menu since you are using the Classic style.

Go to Customize Start Menu tab and double click on the "Programs" item to bring up the "Edit Menu Item" dialog.

Erase everything from the Label field and enter this:
& Programs

(Note that there is an ampersand i.e.'&' character followed by a SPACE and then the text 'Programs'). Click OK.

Now go to the "Search Box" tab and uncheck the option "Selected by default". Click OK to close the Settings dialog.

Now you can press Win key, followed by the Space bar to quickly open the "All Programs" menu. Train yourself to use Space bar instead of the Enter/Return key. It is easier to access in fact since it's the biggest key on the keyboard.

The search box can still be focused quickly by pressing the Tab key.

Garuv:

Splended bit of insight. Clearly, I have some more reading to do.
