Somehow my father decided to use my computer and has messed something up. Worst part is he doesn't know what he did and I can't figure it out. So I will explain the best I can and hopefully somebody is knowledgable enough. As soon as I got Win8 I installed Classic Shell before anything else. From that point i set it to look like the WinXP desktop and menus. I installed all my programs and updates from the Classic Shell desktop. By doing this I was able to put everything on the desktop and open it from there so I could still use the taskbar on the bottom to toggle between open programs and see what was running. Well apparently my father was using Chrome to check his email and couldn't get it to work so he clicked on a setting he claims said use WIN8 settings. Then he proceeded to download a newer version of Chrome and install it under Win8 apparently. Since then everytime you open Chrome it hides the desktop and brings up Chrome in Win8 and you have to toggle it back and forth between the desktop view and Chrome to see if anything is open in the taskbar. It also makes it where when anytime you want to add an attachment to your Gmail in Chrome it uses the Win8 software and explorer, I guess. It is really ugly and difficult to navigate. Anybody have any idea how to get it back to working inside Classic Shell and on the desktop in the system tray? Thanks for your help.

Google Chrome has an icon on the its toolbar to its extreme right like looks like 3 horizontal lines. Click it and choose "Relaunch Chrome on the desktop". That should return it to desktop mode.

I am a Windows enthusiast and helped a little with Classic Shell's testing and usability/UX feedback.

Okay, I will try that. Hopefully that is a fix. It is driving me nuts!!! What I have done so far is to uninstall Classic Shell and then install the newest version. I guess since it was installed as a Win8 app it is defaulted to that. I just haven't been able to find that setting to switch it back. I also checked all the settings for Classic Shell but didn't find anything that looked like it would help change it back, so it must be a Windows setting. Very irritating to have to toggle back and forth though.
