I am able to make the start menu opaqu but can not return the taskbar itself to opaque/non-transparent appearance. Have tried all the disable transparency settings in CS settings.

win 8.1 with latest aeroglass.

merci

Classic shell doesn't do this. The only alternative I know of is http://www.glass8.eu/win_future.html
Its touted as 'freeware' but you have to make a minimum suggested 'donation' to get the annoying add removed.

It might be because of Aero Glass from http://www.glass8.eu/ that the option in Classic Shell to make the taskbar opaque may not be working. Doesn't that other app have a setting to not modify the taskbar but only make title bars transparent?

big muscle the author of aeroglass informs me that his software in no way impacts the transparency of the taskbar. Im having different results as, with or without CS, the only way to return the task bar to opaque is by uninstalling aeroglass. i have let him know and am waiting to hear back...

tnx

Ok I think I may have miss-read. His software adds blur/glass to the taskbar, start menu(compatible with classic shell), and the title-bar for windows (and even the insides of explorer windows with the appropriate themes) It is un-needed if you simply want an opaque/solid colored taskbar. (the classic shell setting alone should suffice)
Windows 8.1 taskbar is transparent by default

If you did already had aero glass installed, then it may be a compatibility issue between aero-glass and classic shell, preventing classic shells 'opaque' setting from taking effect.
