I had Classic Shell installed on Win8 and updated to WIN 8.1 When I power up the windows Tile screen appears. It does not go away until you click WINDOWS + D. On WIN 8 the classic screen appeared when the pc started. How can I get Classic Shell to start up when WIN 8.1 starts instead of the tile screen.

If the Start Menu isn't loading at startup, upgrade to Classic Shell 4.0.4 to make it start reliably.

Edit: To show the Desktop automatically, also follow Ivo's instructions below.

Check the setting "Skip Metro screen" in the Windows 8.1 tab.

Than you to both replies. I installed 4.0.4. Hopefully this will be better.

Installed Classic Shell 4.0.4 on Windows 8.1 Dell system. Have two user profiles on system.
On hard shutdown after user log off; when system is restarted the screen automatically goes to the last user page and bypasses the selection screen to choose a user for this session. This forces a logoff to return to the selection screen to select the other user.
Is this a Classic Shell issue, a Windows issue or a setting on either Classic Shell or Windows?

Yes, I think that's how Windows 8 works. Classic Shell doesn't run until after you log in, so it can't affect anything on the sign in screen.

Thanks, I'll try the Windows 8.1 solution avenue for this small but annoying problem

@Bucky38, this may help: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-disable- ... -window-8/ . There is also a free tool 'User List Enabler'. Try it.
