First off, thanks to the dev for such a terrific program!

I searched through the forums for about 10 minutes, but I wasn't able to find the answers to my questions. Apologies if any of these have already been answered and I'm just not good at finding what I need.

Here is a picture of my current setup with the Metro skin:

  1. Is there a way to change the color of my start menu so that it doesn't match my Windows 10 accent color? Is the only way to use ResHacker?
  2. Is it possible to have the font on the right column bigger than the font on the left (like this)? SOLVED: Set icon size to large, then change the large icon size to match the small icon size.
  3. I have menu glass checked with the opacity set to 50, but I still don't have any transparency. Is there a setting I'm not checking in order to get opacity on my start menu?

1) The Metro skin is designed to use the entire color set from Windows 10, not simply the main background color. If you change the background you will have to change all of the colors. Yes, ResHacker or another resource editor tool is the only way to edit skins.

2) Yes, different menu items can have different fonts, different sizes, and different padding.

3) The Windows 7 style of the Metro skin does not support glass. The left side in general does not support transparency. Try the Classic style - then you can enable the glass from the skin settings.

So as Ivo said,

1. If you want to stick with the Metro skin only, there is no way to set it to a color different from your Windows 10 accent color. But if you use any other skin, there is a "Menu glass color" setting on the "Menu Look" tab.

2. In your screenshot, the right column spacing/padding is bigger :) The font size is the same. It is possible by editing the skin to have right column font or padding bigger. Tell me which skin you want it bigger for and I can try to edit that skin for you.

3. Metro skin in Windows 7 style is an exception for the glass settings because the "All Programs" treeview does not yet support transparency. Try other Windows 7-style menu skins with the glass only in the right side column. Or switch to classic style of the menu where the Metro skin can also have glass transparency.

Thank you both very much for the responses. GauravK, I appreciate your offer in answer #2, but I actually figured out a way to get what I'm looking for. I edited my OP with the details.

Hi,

Hijacking this thread as I have a similar skin as SquaredCircle.

I'm using the Windows 7 style for the Start menu and the Midnight skin:

Is there a way to have the same transparency on the left panel as it is on the right one?

As of version 4.2.4 of Classic Shell, glass transparency in the left column is not possible for Windows 7 style.

Starting with Classic Shell 4.2.5, the Metro and Midnight skins support transparency in both columns in Windows 7 style.
