Hey all, so this seems like a pretty unusual problem to me. I have been using classic shell for more than a year now, and I always used the sleep option when I get up from my computer. But a couple of days ago, the option just disappeared entirely. I can't make it show up on the extended list, it doesn't show up on the button like it used to, nothing.

A few pertinent details:

I use the Windows 7 style start menu.

Under Settings>Main Menu>Shutdown Command sleep is the selected option.

Even though sleep is selected, the button still says shutdown.

If I choose any of the other options, they show up without issues.

If I write sleep into the Shutdown menu items dialog box, it shows as empty if there is nothing else in the box, or only has the other options if I write other things in as well, such as restart.

I really don't understand what is going on, I used it just fine before and now all of sudden, for no discernible reason, it absolutely refuses to work. I would really appreciate any help you guys could give me here, it's driving me bonkers.

Most likely the OS reports that sleeping is not available. Have you tried Hibernate instead?
Also, click on the desktop and press Alt+F4. Is Sleep or Hibernate available there as an option?

I have tried hibernate and I don't like it all really, it takes a lot longer to start back up and I have to hit the power button to wake it up, which is rather inconvenient compared to just hitting a keyboard key to wake from sleep.

I did the alt+f4 on the desktop, neither hibernate or sleep are options in that menu, but hibernate does work on classic shell, and it shows up in the extended list from the shutdown button, unlike sleep.

Why would it suddenly change to say that sleeping isn't available? I hadn't changed anything about the computer, I had woken it from sleep before, and then when I went to put it back to sleep it had changed itself to only having the shutdown option.

Check Device Manager for any devices that do not have drivers correctly installed. If Windows Plug and Play is not working correctly, Sleep is unavailable.
