To hide the start screen you need the policy "Show Start screen shortcut".
To remove Apps you have to edit the menu items with the policy "Menu items for classic menu with one column".

Thank you for this. I have found the policy "Menu items for classic menu with one column".

Do I copy all of the data values from the MenuItems1 into the group policy as above?

When I copy all of the data values I get an error saying " No text was entered for this field".

Many Thanks
Rob

First customize the menu as per your liking from Settings -> Customize Start Menu tab. Remove the "Apps" item from the left column since you wish to hide it.

Next, open Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe) and go to this Registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings. Copy the value data of the value 'MenuItems1' by double clicking it and pressing Ctrl+C.

In Group Policy, double click the policy setting 'Menu items for classic menu with one column', set it to Enabled, Locked to this value and paste it in the box below (make sure you don't accidentally paste it into the "Comment" box). Click OK.

Now right click the Start button and choose Exit. Start Classic Start Menu again from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe.

The latest version 4.2.1 has a new setting to hide the Apps menu item in the Classic styles. You don't have to edit the menu items to disable it.

I am using 4.2.1 and have enabled the Hide app shortcuts option.

However, I still see the Apps menu icon which displays the Store and PC Settings option.

The Menu is set to Classic 2 column.

Can anyone advise me where I have gone wrong?

The setting you must use is called "Show Apps menu" and it is only available in the Classic styles. "Hide app shortcuts" hides those Metro app shortcuts which are outside the dedicated "Apps" folder.

Thanks GauravK.

For the Show Apps menu option, should the setting be as follows:-

- Enabled
- State: Locked to this value
- Show Apps Menu (unchecked)

As I understand it, the Disabled option does not currently work according to the release notes.

Is that correct as well?

Correct. Disabled means the policy is disabled, not the setting.
