I am tinkering with the start menu options. I like the Win7 look, but I have the cascading programs option selected, which is nice.

I noticed that in folders, program icons are now placed below the folders. I've actually gotten used to the Win7 method, which is to place icons on top of folders.

I looked in the start menu settings, but didn't see an option for htis. Is there a way to get this?

Kind of. You can edit the settings of the ProgramsMenu item and select that it is sorted Z -> A. However that will also flip the order of the folders, not just put them after the icons.

OK I checked that option (to sort A to Z), but so far there's no change in my programs menu. Perhaps after a reboot it will change.

You will have to either resort or enable auto-arrange. Right-click in the sub-menu and select Sort by Name or Auto Arrange. The first one is a one-time sort and the second will keep the menu sorted (but won't allow you to rearrange the items with drag/drop)

you could always just put all the items you want in another folder in that location, so they pop up without any folders at all
