Trying to diagnose a problem with Win 8 Pro tray icons (hidden). Only thing I can think of is possibly Classic Shell (Have not installed Classic Explorer or Classic IE 9) may have changed something which maybe a bit of a long shot.

Does CS affect any of the explorer functions to do with the tray or hidden tray?

The problem is over a few days uptime the icons start to disappear, eg turn into white squares in the hidden tray or totally invisible squares in the normal tray.

Here's a screenshot of one icon missing.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

White squares often mean the system is running low on resources. It is usually caused by a resource leak in some application. It can be Classic Shell or any other process in your system. I have Classic Shell running for weeks without logging off, and I don't see any problems like that.

Interesting. I have 1.5gb free according to task manager and plenty disk space. Are these the resources you are referring to?

No. I'm talking about things like GDI objects and USER objects. Process Explorer can show those.
