I installed Classic Shell after purchasing a desktop with Windows 8. I resisted updating to 8.1 because I didn't want to lose Classic Shell (mainly the start button). Today I was forced to update to 8.1 because I was not given the option to "remind me later". Long story short, I no longer have the start button. I uninstalled and reinstalled Classic Shell and still no start button. Please forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum. I'm "old" and not real computer savvy. Classic Shell saved my sanity using Windows 8 and now I feel like crying! If someone could direct me to the correct forum or webpage, I would appreciate it so much. I used the "search" option using the words "start button" and had no luck.

Edit: I now have a start button. Before when I clicked on it, I was taken to the 8.1 start page. I guess this proves how computer "unsavvy" I am. I apologize for wasting your forum space and time on this post.

This is definitely the right forum

as for your problem;
Try right clicking the start button
If it doesn't say classic shell at the top, then classic shell isnt starting with windows
If this is the case, go to the install folder, and start classic shell settings manually, search for 'Start automatically for this user'

Also try right clicking the taskbar and opening task manager, then go to the 'startup' tab and see if 'classic start menu' is enabled there
