Is it possible for Classic Shell to have affected the USB ports on a Toshiba laptop - bought from Currys store 8 months ago ?
This is the claim made by Currys - to get round fixing the device - which has 3 dead USB ports....
I assume that this is total bunkum ?

Yes that's total nonsense. Classic Shell is like a regular safe app like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. It doesn't affect USB port functionality.

They are clearly giving excuses to get around fixing the device.

"It doesn't affect USB port functionality."
Software can affect hardware functionality (how else could you disable hardware through device manager), however classic shell does not intentionally touch hardware in any way (that I know of), and the possibility of it accidentally doing it is close to nil...

Because classic shell isnt developed by a large company, its easy for them to say its not trustworthy...

Also are these usb 2.0 or 3.0?

If there 2.0
Tell them to attach a keyboard to the ports, and attempt to open the bios (delete key while the system is booting up)
This will bypass your windows installation entirely (thus completely disproving any potential for a software cause)
