Hello,

how does Classic Start Menu achieve disabling the lower left hot corner in Windows 8.1?

Windows 8.1 has built in settings to disable the upper left hot corner and upper right hot corner.

But it does not seem to have a setting to disable the lower left hot corner.

However, Classic Start Menu is able to disable the lower left hot corner.

How does Classic Start Menu do that? And would it be possible to disable the lower left hot corner without using Classic Start Menu (via registry settings for example)?

By the way: with lower left hot corner I mean the "start button" pop-up, which appears in the lower left corner when you point the cursor in the lower left hot corner.

Regards

The start menu hides the invisible windows named "EdgeUiInputWndClass", which are responsible for catching clicks in the corners.

Hello,

thanks for the fast responde.

But, do you know of any way to do this with tools built into Windows 8.1 (like the registry for example)?

I came across the following registry values:

Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI]
"DisableCharmsHint"=dword:00000001
"DisableTRcorner"=dword:00000001
"DisableTLcorner"=dword:00000001

So I tried adding:

Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI]
"DisableBLcorner"=dword:00000001

to disable the bottom left hot corner (I assumed "BL" could work for Bottom Left).

But it did not work :(.

Again, I am talking about this:

Could you please tell me which registry value I would need to change to disable this?

It would be much appreciated.

Regards

There does not exist a Registry value to control the bottom left corner. Only the top left and top right corners can be turned off completely using Registry settings. There is another tweak called DisableCharmsHint that controls top-right or bottom-right corners. But no registry key to turn off the bottom left corner unless you use some continuously running app to suppress it.

Hello,

this is really sad :(.

Because, now that Classic Shell is closed source, I don't really want to use it anymore.

Do you know of any tool other than Classic Shell (Classic Start Menu) that is able to do it and which is open source?

Regards
