Hi all, I'm setting up an RDS server using 2012 and I want to of course use the mighty classic shell. I have tried extracting the GPO template from the C drive but its not showing as an option even in GPedit. if I browse for a template I can't see them either. any thoughts and in advance many thanks,!!! |

To install Group Policy administrative templates on a single machine, extract the files from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\PolicyDefinitions.zip to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions To install Group Policy administrative templates to a domain, extract the files from the archive to \\<yourdomainname>\SYSVOL\yourdomainname\Policies\PolicyDefinitions (Older Windows Server versions may store policy templates in \\yourdomainname\SysVol\yourdomainname\Policies folder). |

So i have set the GPO settings using the GPO from 2014 4.0.4 version using 4.1 CS. The GPO is at the Root of the company's GPO's yet the settings do not seem to be getting set. what is wrong. We are using: windows 8.1 Classic Shell 4.1 Active Directory 2012 r2 |

Classic Shell reads the settings from HKLM\Software\Policies\IvoSoft and HKCU\Software\Policies\IvoSoft. It is my understanding that the GPO system is supposed to write to these registry locations. Check if they contain any information. |

There is some data but most of the settings are not in either hive. Is this because I am on 8.1? |

Only the non-default settings will show up. What do you see under those two registry keys? |

You must restart the Start Menu or log out and login again. Have you done that? |

Attached is the HKCU, and HKLM hive export. I have restarted the machine several times and have also logged out and logged in as a new user and done a gpupdate /force

That's the wrong key. There should be "Policies" between "Software" and "IvoSoft". Also it is weird that there is so much data in your HKLM key. Looks like you copied the HKCU values to HKLM. That's not how it works. If you want certain settings to apply to all users you need to copy select values from HKCU\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings to HKLM\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu. Note the lack of \Settings in the second path. |
