Post subject: | Menu item "Startup" + "Administrative Tools" not translated |
Hello, in German Win2008R2 system Classic Start Menu does not translate the menu items "Startup" and "Administrative Tools". In German we would expect: Startup => Autostart Administrative Tools => Verwaltung Language setting is put to German, also German version installation 4.1. Maybe it depends on start menu right click function "sort by name", I am not shure ![]() How to solve this issue? Thx... |

The text for such folders comes from the operating system. If your OS language is English you will see the English names, just like in Explorer. |

Thanks for reply. Indeed, its German os version, so German menu item names are expected. If login as user, there are the German menu item names. If login as administrator, there are English menu item names. Installation of German version of Classic menu has been done as administrator!? Hmmm... ![]() |

If you login as administrator, and open Explorer, are the folders there in English? For example Desktop, Pictures, etc. |

What about Explorer? If you open the Startup and Administrative tools folders in Explorer, do they appear in German? |

There are two screenshots attached, logon = administrator. Language of menu entries is mixed English and German. In Explorer there are no startmenu items visible, even if option "show all files, also system and hidden" is enabled. Any hint about this behaviour? Thx...

You have to open the correct folder in Explorer to see them. Open: C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs AND C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs |

Ok, I did find it. Attached two screenshots, German os Win2008R2: USER with "Programme/Verwaltung" and "Programme/Autostart" in German ADMINISTRATOR with "Programs/Administrative Tools" and "Programs/Startup" in English That's the reason, why admin logon shows English menu items. It must be an issue with an installer (?), i did never touch this item names!? How to solve this issue? For me renaming seems to be not possible because this folders are protected system ones!?

I think there is a hidden, system file called Desktop.ini in the Startup and Administrative Tools folders. This file tells Explorer to show translated names. You could try copying the file from the User account to the Administrator account's Startup and Admin Tools folders. Then log out and log in again and check if the Admin account shows in German too (after copying the Desktop.ini to each of those folders from the same folders in the 'User' account). |

Problem resolved, thank you very much! The desktop.ini (system/hidden) files have been missing, after restoring it from older backup, everything runs like expected in German. |
