I could really use some help. I have Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center installed on my Dell desktop PC with Classic Shell running. (which I love!!) Before updating to Windows 8.1 a few weeks ago, I was able to see a number of files/utilities shown under the "Administrative Tools", "Maintenance" & "System Tools" folders. (So I could access Defrag, remote assistance, and MS Paint, for example) Since updating to Windows 8.1, I no longer have any files appearing under those folders in the start menu.... they are empty. I looked at both the single user & All Users views of these folders and both are empty. Any thoughts??? Thanks Rob Note: I have the latest Classic Shell installed on my PC. |

The shortcuts inside the Start Menu are all managed by Windows, Classic Shell only presents them through a menu. It is possible that during the upgrade to Windows 8.1, some shortcuts got deleted by Windows Setup. |

Thank you. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can restore those shortcuts? Thanks |

For administrative tools, try following the steps here: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-display-administrative-tools-on-the-start-screen-in-windows-8-and-windows-8-1/ I think the Maintenance folder is always empty in Windows 8.1. As for System Tools, they might be there in a folder called "Windows System" inside All Programs. |
