I spent hours getting my start menu "just right" over the last few months... then downloaded the upgrade yesterday. I've lost all my hard work.. If I don't have to, I don't really want to repeat the exercise 1 Any ideas on how to recover the previous settings? 2 Does this always happen with upgrades? TIA |

No there is a bug where upgrading from version 3.6.x to Classic Shell 4.0.4 will cause the settings to not get migrated. While it will be fixed in the next version, you can uninstall Classic Shell 4.0.4 and then install 3.6.8 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/files/). Your old version's settings should still be preserved in the Registry, because version 4.0 stores settings in a different place in the Registry. Once you roll back to Classic Shell 3.6.x, you can save an XML of the Settings using the Backup button and then load it in the new version. |

GauravK, Thanks so much... I'm back to square 1 with the previous version (which is where I want to be!):D Trying to resolve the problem searching the Forum or FAQ caused anguish too - any phrase that used the word "settings" was less than useful. Again, thanks. Tree Frog |

Yeah the phpbb forum's search sucks. As I said, you can easily save your settings to the XML and upgrade to version 4 and import them. Then all your settings will be preserved. |

This bug is fixed in 4.0.5 so the settings should get migrated when upgrading from 3.6.x. |
