Hi,
Is Classic Shell capable of removing the Logoff/Disconnect & Shutdown capability from the desktop in Win Server 2008 R2 & 2012 R2 for remote desktop sessions? I can do most of it via GP (disable Ctrl-Alt-Del and shutdown) but disconnect/log off aren't possible w/ the stock interface.

If you are using the Classic style you can build your own Shutdown menu with any combination of settings you want. Also in the next version the Shutdown menu can be configured even for the Windows 7 style.

Of course all that only affects the start menu itself. It doesn't remove any other shutdown functionality found elsewhere in Windows (like from the Alt+F4 shutdown dialog).

You can first disable/remove Disconnect/Logoff and any commands from the Start menu and then also configure the policies for it so they get hidden from the Alt+F4 Shutdown dialog and other methods.

There is a Group Policy called "Remove Disconnect option from Shut Down dialog" at Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Remote Session Environment.

Also for Logoff, there are 2 policies:
"Remove Logoff" in User Config -> Admin Templates-> System-> Logon/Logoff
and
"Remove Logoff on the Start Menu" in User Config -> Admin Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar

I've been able to suppress the alt-f4 ctrl-alt-del etc avenues. When you're using 2008 R2 or higher and a remote desktop session the suppression of log off & disconnect has a bug. It you set both off; log off will still show and function.

I'll look closer at the info Ivo posted.

Ivo,
Thanks. That is exactly what I was looking for. Our terminal services servers were stuck at 2008 because of this issue. The only way to upgrade was a new ERP system at a cost in the mid 6 figures. :) :) :)

Main Menu -> Shutdown Command -> None (hide the button).

In Classic Shell 4.0.4, there is a new hidden (registry-only) setting "ShutdownW7", where you can list what commands you want to see in the Shutdown menu for Windows 7 style. "ShutdownW7" is a string value which can be added to either HKCU\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings (currently logged in user) or HKLM\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu (all users). The value data must contain the commands that you want to allow. The available commands are: switch_user, windows_security, logoff, lock, disconnect, undock, restart, sleep, hibernate, shutdown. Separate the commands with a comma or semicolon. The order of commands is not important. This hidden setting is also present as a Group Policy setting called "Shutdown menu items". Restart the Start Menu for changes to take effect.
