Post subject:  Classic Shell 4.00 ...behaving erratically with Windows 8.1
I have upgraded Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and everything ran smoothly until some odd error messages popped up ie ' ShellExecute failed; code 21.The Device Is Not Ready ' when tried to install some downloaded programs

I have used Classic Shell with Windows 8 with no problems.

I ran an depth virus,malware on my computer ...everything ok...my pc clean.

I also noticed some weird font characters popping up in taskbar ( new feature re: one of Classic Shell screenshots )when i click on some folders...the font characters looked to like Egyptian hieroglypics !...what is going on ...i thought.So i uninstalled Classic Shell 4.00 and re-installed Classic Shell 4.00 and got the same results !..hmm..so i ran an in depth registry scan and deleted Classic Shell remnants....rebooted and have been using Windows 8.1 new Start button/Metro screen..which i can't get used to.Unfortunately i didn't make any desktop screenshots which would have helped...by the way some of settings in Classic Shell have a small red padlock beside some options...what's this about ?

I am a bit wary of re-installing Classic Shell in case i get the same problems again and go the in depth pc clean up again.

Any ideas what could be going on ?

If so, it will be fixed in the next version that's about to be released shortly.

Thankyou for replying.

The screenshot you gave showed the strange fonts at bottom of taskbar i was experiencing.I will try the latest version of ClassicShell 4.0.1 and see how it behaves with Windows 8.1

Version 4.0.2 works exactly how i want it to with my version of Windows 8.1 :D
