I am using Windows Classic Start Menu 3.6.8, on a Win7sp1 64-bit laptop. My Classic Start Menu is very Classic: one main column and additional columns as needed.

Every time (or maybe almost every time; I haven't kept a log) I use one of the items in my Start Menu, it is duplicated on top of the first column. I think (but am not sure) that this is called a pin. In any case, it is a mild annoyance because I later have to remove the duplicate items (I highlight each one and tap the laptop's delete key).

In "Settings for Classic Start Menu 3.6.8" I have made some changes in the Special Items tab, but they have not solved the problem, although they have altered it: now the duplicate items are not at the top of the first column, but are just above the Programs folder.

I would very much appreciate learning how to prevent these duplications.

You need to uncheck "Show recent programs" from the Special Items tab.
