After a Windows Update yesterday - <Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3124200)> - Classic Shell was no longer working properly – after boot and exit from any program the old Windows 10 Start Screen is displayed instead of the Classic Shell desktop. If I press the Windows key theClassic Shell desktop is displayed again. There also appears to be a bit of an unwanted graphics animation in task swapping using alt+tab. Something in the latestWindows Update has mucked up CS.

In desperation I tried an uninstall/ reinstall of CS but change/ improvement.

I eventually realized (by accident) long after theWindows Update my desktop PC had been set into "tablet mode". Once disabled, the desired behavior was restored. Hopefully this may save others wasting lots of time trying to figure out what went wrong.

Yes, Tablet Mode turns on the Start screen and disables the Desktop. Press Win+A to bring up the Action Center/Notification Center in Windows 10 and turn off Tablet Mode.
