hi guys,
I have used classic shell all the way up through windows 8.0
I now run windows 8.1
I turned off all anti spyware, anti virus and it still will not run and show
in the lower left as the main button to click on.
after running it, windows 8.1 seems to take over automatically and put its
own start button back on..
the classic shell button never appears.
I have tried the newest version and older ones back to 4.0.2, and I have reinstalled each version.
no affect.
windows 8.1 uses it's own start button which just takes you to the annoying newer windows 8 type desktop screen.

any ideas ?

I finally figured it out.
The directory the classic shell program makes under windows 8.1,
C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\
did not have permissions for everyone in it after it was installed.
so, I removed the program from the pc, and then I first created the
directory and then gave it permissions to Everyone.
After that I reinstalled and it works perfect.

Dear ALL - After working on this- I finally think I have a cure !
First make sure that this program is NOT already on your pc. Uninstall from PC if it is!
#1 download .exe set up to desktop
#2 Left click ikon on desktop to open- then click on properties
#3 click on security-then click on edit -then on add - type in everyone -then ok(everyone is now added to group user names)
#4 Left click on desktop .exe- right click on open to install ! after finished -restart ! This worked for me+ I hope it does for other new machine 8.1 users .
