Closing a W8 app currently takes me back to the Desktop.
I would prefer that closing a W8 app would take me back to the W8 Start menu.

Is there a setting for this?
(I think it'd be more intuitive AND it'll help me to get used to the W8 environment)

The WIN key IS working intuitively, in my opinion:
- In Desktop, WIN-key takes me to the W8 Start menu
- In W8 Start menu, WIN key takes me to the Desktop (and ESC takes me to the Desktop as well)
- In W8 App, WIN key takes me to W8 Start menu

After instaling Windows 8.1 Update 1 it changed this behavior for me. Now I can see no way to return to the Tiles view after closing Metro app. It always comes back to desktop. I noticed Startisback can return you to Tiles view after closing Metro app with last used environment setting. Can classic shell add it please?

In Windows 8.1 the setting that skips the Metro screen on startup is the same that controls if apps go to the desktop when they close. It is stupid, I know, but it is what it is. You can change it from the Navigation tab of the taskbar properties.
