Hi,

I can't get any version of Classic Shell to install on Win 8.1 Upgrade.

I just keep getting the error message "Failed to run msiexec.exe"

I can install other programs but just not this one?

I have tried different versions but get the same error each time?

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

The message means that the installer failed to find msiexec.exe in the system path or failed to launch it.
You can use the "extract32" and "extract64" parameters for the installer to extract the MSI file for your OS (32-bit or 64-bit): http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#install_commands
Then try executing the MSI manually. Maybe you will get better diagnostic messages.

I have read that but all it does is give commands and doesn't really tell you what to do.

So I have downloaded the installer on my desktop.

What next?

what do I have to do to get to the stage to enter that command?

Press Win+R keys to open the Run dialog. Drag and drop the installer into the Run dialog. Then you can the modify the command from:
"...ClassicShellSetup_4_1_0.exe" to "...ClassicShellSetup_4_1_0.exe" extract32 or "...ClassicShellSetup_4_1_0.exe" extract64. The MSI file will be extracted to the same folder as the EXE installer. Then try running the MSI file directly.
