I found this mickey mouse head that I would like to set as my classic shell start button in windows 8. However, I have tried for the last 12 hours to get it to work and it just doesn't. Here is the file.

Any Start button shouldn't be a single image but must contains 3 states - hot, hover and pressed states. Like this:

You might find Stardock's Start button creation tool easy: http://stardock.cachefly.net/Start8BtnEditor.zip. If you are comfortable with graphics editing, use any free editor like Paint.net or GIMP and create 3 states of the image, on top of each other, save the image as a PNG.

Once you assign the button from Classic Start Menu Settings, go to the "Start Button" tab where you can change the size to make it fit your taskbar's height.

I'll make it for ya. :P it's easy enough. Especially since I use GIMP 2 for making start buttons. :P

Okay, here it is. I hope you like it. 8-)

To download it, just right click it and save it to whichever folder you use for your start button images.

I love this!! I had to use size 50 for it to work with my machine but it looks awesome! I wonder... Should I want to make mu own, do I do it in any size (bmp) and just change the size in the program settings as I did for this one?

Yea it can be any size .bmp just remember that the skin will be cut into 3 even horizontal slices..
Also a really large .bmp takes up more ram to use (this one takes 350kb) not a huge deal until you start getting into really high resolutions, or on really old systems
