Surely there must be a way to replace the right side of Luna with a glass version of the metro color, and the left side (white) with a white glass. Any suggestions on how I might do that myself? I am a complete novice to working with bitmaps, and the most programming experience I have is working with VBScrips to do stupid stuff. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

(I'm on the newest Home distribution of Windows 10)

possible, yes. But it would be considerable effort (especially from the luna skin as a base) because its not just about editing the bitmap. (unless you want a specific color hard-coded in)
Have you browsed the forum: viewforum.php?f=17
and found nothing suitable?

If you are insistent on doing it yourself, there are skinning tutorials in the help file (open classic shell settings, and click help in the top right), But I should warn you that it will likely take 2-4 hours for a beginner to figure out, and do what you are planning. (It would probably take me a full hour at least)

If you have any specific questions though the forum is available.

Um...I made a modded Luna skin that takes the Glass colour over the regions which were blue in the original skin. It's not a match for the exact goal, but I would think it's kinda close...does such a thing have any appeal?

EDIT: Here it is: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4420
The accompanying start button isn't black, it uses transparency to pretend to take the taskbar colour, without sacraficing the nice XP-esque shading. The screenshots are a truly horrible demonstration, you need to see it on your own taskbar.

Hmm, then would it be easier for me to just make the blue and white parts partially transparent (and blurred)? Matching the color of the taskbar is pretty optional for me.

(clarification: by blue part, I mean the right column, and by white part, I mean the left column. I don't really care about the blue title bar)

edit: using the Glass Luna skin now. I like it, but would still like to know how to use transparency+blur in the columns)

I might do some modifications to my: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=25
skin if you think its close to what you need (not movin the pic though its alot of work to move/resize)
btw check the 'dark right column' setting

Currently working on modifying the Glass Luna skin, by changing the opacity to fullglass, and changing the alpha level on the bitmap where it needs to be. I'm working on that second part, and I'll report back with my findings/questions.

I'm having trouble compiling my edits in ResourceHacker, and seeing the new skin show up in ClassicShell. Any common mistakes people make when trying to do those things I should be aware of?
Thanks for the help everyone, by the way.

Try saving on the desktop and drag/dropping the file into the classic shell skins folder. Reshacker doesnt have permissions for that directory likely.

or launch ResHacker with Administration rights: right click -> "Run as administrator"

Hello Splitwirez.
I had passed off on this skin in Win7/8.1.
It was the unorthodox way of keeping color in the original bitmap to blend with the mask,
where original is usually greyscale. Bit too much tint contamination.

WOW!
Now, different story, as Win10 behaves differently,
by auto adding 40/255 brightness, and squashing top brightness, when glass is used.
At least that's the way I see it.

This looks very good now in Windows 10.
Splitwirez, I give you a ten out of ten, on this one. :D

Whether you made the mask, simply by changing the tint of original,
or more in depth alteration, it came out superb in Win 10.

I see your mask has the additional green pixels in it, referenced to menu white (Main_background=#FFFFFF),
which brightens the menu, gives some depth, and gives it an almost metal sheen. :P

Hello ben158.
How is it going with your fullglass opacity mod?
Just a hint, unless you did it already,
you might have to make 32 bit bitmaps to stop the over bright desktop from showing through,
on the selection buttons.
