Before TH2, "Classic XP" doesn't work, as "The root cause of the problem is that for some reason Windows 10 sets the line height to be 8 pixels and then uses 3 lines to represent each item. In that mode the tree control can’t correctly draw the icon, so Explorer draws it manually. However that interferes with the way the control draws its lines."

But maybe TH2 makes it possible?

I don't think Microsoft would have changed anything in Explorer in TH2. They rarely fix old bugs, they usually rewrite the whole component or control from scratch.

What about such scenario:
* Windows 10
* add explorer.exe from Win7 as e.g. explorer7.exe
* start this old explorer

Would classic shell attach to it? Could redraw "XP classic" style [+] buttons and lines?

I'm on TH2 and am using the xp styled buttons in the file explorer's nav pane. So far I haven't had any problems. [not sure if that's what you're referring to, though]

Explorer cannot be ported like that across Windows versions.

@JoshuaL2, there were 2 navigation pane styles: Windows XP Simple and Windows XP Classic. Windows 10 broke XP Classic.

Sure if you change your definition of "broken" to "works". :mrgreen: It's like calling darkness as the new standard of light.
