It would be nice if deleting shortcuts on the Start Menu did not close the Start Menu. It's annoying if there are multiple shortcuts in a folder you want to delete but you don't want to completly delete the entire folder. You have to navigate back to the folder over, and over, and over....

The problem is that deleting stuff can often show a confirmation prompt, and since Windows 8 those prompts appear behind the start menu. That's why the start menu has to close.
The start menu is not a file manager and is only suited for the occasional file management tasks. For large scale changes, open the Start Menu folder in Explorer and do the work there.

Huh, I didn't realize the "Open" and "Open all users" options when right-clicking the Start Menu button opened the Start Menu locations in Windows Explorer. Handy shortcuts! I'll use these in future for bulk changes.
