I'm not sure if this possible and it is probably a windows limitation, but when I create a shortcut to a folder in my start menu and move the mouse over it, the contents are displayed in an adjacent box in alpha order. I would like them to be in date order for just this folder. I have a program which creates text files, assigns them a random six character name and dumps them into this folder. I then have to manually open the newest file. To do that, I go to the start menu and open the shortcut folder. If the files were already in date order, I could just hover over the shortcut folder and click on the top text file without having to open its folder to determine which file is the newest by date view. edit: I'm using Windows 7. |

Unfortunately, there is no feature to sort a folder added to the Start Menu by any other criteria besides Name. You can sort the "Recent Documents" folder by Date though. Open Start Menu Settings -> go to the Main Menu tab. Look for the setting: Sort Recent Documents and set it to By Date. However, this will only affect documents or files already showing in the folder. If the text file you are creating are newly created, they won't appear since they haven't been opened before. |
