I have lost the ShowDesktop button from my start menu. It is in the right-hand corner, but I prefer it on the left-side.
Could you set a command in the Classic Menu Settings so it can also
(1) be pinned to the taskbar, or
(2) show it on the left-side, or
(3) in the Quick Launch?
(4) add ShowDesktop to the right-click menu [would probably best most user friendly] ?

Thanks

Here is how you can bring back the Show Desktop button on the Taskbar, on the left side, next to the Start button: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-bring-ba ... e-taskbar/

Here is how you can re-enable Quick Launch: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-enable-q ... ndows-8-1/ Then you can add the Show Desktop button to Quick Launch as well.

The built-in Show Desktop button on the Taskbar can be hidden using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker: http://www.rammichael.com/.

I am very disappointed in the fact that you recommended winaero software, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth about Classic Shell.

I tried downloading it and was taken to downloadnet.org and given all kinds of extra software to sift through. When i finally found what I thought "might be" the Pinner software you recommended I find I've downloaded something which tried to take over my machine.

I thought Classic Shell developers would be better than to recommend hijacking software. Am I the first to complain?

I am sorry your PC got unwanted software. The correct download button is the one that looks like this:

The Winaero website has many ads. Because all the apps there are free and no one donates, the only way to earn revenue is via ads. You may have clicked on the wrong "Download" button which might actually be some ad which tries to install sneaky stuff and crapware which hijacked your machine.

I don't tolerate apps with crapware either but the apps themselves from Winaero are clean, they don't even have an installer, most of them are portable. However clicking the wrong Download button may have caused your PC to get infected.

You can use the Ghostery add-on for whichever browser you use (https://www.ghostery.com/) to block ads. If you are using Internet Explorer, turn on Tracking Protection from the Tools menu and download a Tracking Protection List from http://www.iegallery.com/en-us/trackingprotectionlists. Once the ad servers are blocked, only the correct Download button will show on that site. Then download the Winaero.com tools, you won't get unwanted crapware. The tools themselves are great and do not install anything else.

At this forum, I think you are the first to complain but I will take steps to prevent others' PCs from being infected by informing what they need to do to prevent clicking the wrong Download button when recommending Winaero.com tools.

i did what you said, and this time go to download the software, but this download process has made me feel stupid.

I downloaded the software, unzipped it, and then clicked on the file TaskBarPinner.exe. That took me to a page with their free software. I clicked on the Win7 Pinner software and was taken back to the original screen to start the entire process over. I have yet to be able to get tot he software.

I understand about their needing all the links offering other software to pay for what they have made, but this round-robin is senseless. Are you sure your friend isn't jerking us around?

Which operating system are you running, Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1? Taskbar Pinner is only for Windows 7. For Windows 8/8.1, you must get Pin to 8.

Once you download the ZIP from this page (http://winaero.com/download.php?view.34), and run the EXE (from either the x64 and x86 folder), the tool should directly open. I just tried this myself and it works. There are no round-trips to the page, in fact, no web page opens automatically unless the user explicitly clicks on the Winaero.com hyperlink inside the Taskbar Pinner tool.

You can be sure that the tool is clean and doesn't cause any popups or round-trips. I think you might be opening some other file. Can you please show a screenshot of what you are running?

Let's review the steps again. The ZIP file you download from http://winaero.com/download.php?view.34 should have the contents as follows:

Next, you need to extract everything or just the folder you need (64-bit or 32-bit) depending on whether your Windows OS is 32-bit or 64-bit. Then you just run the EXE. That's it.

Of course, if you are running Windows 8/8.1, you must get Pin to 8 (http://winaero.com/download.php?view.36), that is mentioned in the article.
