Very often, you cannot remove thumbs.db because it is locked by explorer. It seems that the process updating this thumbnail database keeps this file locked even then there are no updates needed. Changing the view mode usually helps, but this is a very annoying work-around. Classic Explorer shows this behavior as well. Would be very nice to get rid of this stupid bug.... |

Classic Explorer is just a plugin for Windows Explorer. It does not change the thumbnail behavior in any way. |

This isn't related to Classic Shell as it's just an addon for Windows Explorer. However, you can turn off Thumbs.db caching on network drives using Group Policy. Open Gpedit.msc and go to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer. Enable the policy called "Turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files". As far as I know, Windows 7/8/Vista create Thumbs.db only on network shares/drives, not in local folders. For local folders, Windows uses a central thumbnail cache. |
