One of the main things I hate about Win-7 is that I can no longer work the way I used to in Win-XP, ie, keep the taskbar open but underneath all other Windows - that gets me the most screen real estate. I did this by unchecking the option to 'keep the taskbar on top of other Windows". Now I'm constantly having the taskbar popping up inexplicably until I go through all the open windows until I find the one triggering this behavior. I would also like to occasionally like to move to the screen edge without popping up the taskbar. For now, I have downloaded other software that completely eliminates the taskbar.

The only software I know that handles this is DisableTaskbarOnTop: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/54 ... nable.html and it does so by patching Explorer in-memory??
