If I set control panel (or anything) to show with an arrow and a list, I can still click on it itself, to open it in a window. Is there any way to disable the opening of things in a window when they are in list mode? (for the sake of being consistent with how Windows does things.) If not could you consider this option?

Also, would it be possible to consider putting a fade on the Windows 7 style menu when switching to/from "All programs" like the real Windows 7 does?

Thanks for your time.

Open Start Menu settings, show all settings. Go to the Context Menu tab and uncheck the option "Enable Windows Explorer". This will prevent cascading menus from opening in Explorer when double clicked.

I suppose that is what I asked for but it blocks everything to do with explorer, even the right click stuff :S . Is there a possibility of an option that would not block explorer from the right click options while still preventing double clicks from opening it?

What are your thoughts on the fade thing?

Thanks, I really appreciate the quick replies.

Why are you double-clicking on the item in the first place? It is standard behavior everywhere in Windows that double-click opens stuff.

As for the fading, it is a lot of work to get it right. It may be considered for future updates. Most likely not anytime soon.

I'm generally don't double click on that but on the real Windows XP/Vista/7 start button, you can't open an item that is set to show up as a menu unless you right click on it and select open/explorer. (For example, try setting the control panel to "display as menu", it shows a menu when clicked once but does not open when double clicked.) If you don't really care to change it, it's not a big deal to me. I just noticed it was a bit inconsistent with how the real buttons were.

Noted.

Thanks for for taking the time to get back to me.

True, that's a correct observation, you've got a sharp eye. :) In the dual column XP/Vista/7 menu, you can't open folders that way, in the classic menu, you could, which is a feature which increases usability by avoiding right click, so it will stay. :)

Ah yes, you're right, it was like that in the real classic style menu on XP, somehow that makes it all better :).
