Running windows 10 pro 64bit and Classic Shell 4.2.5. I used to be able to type "windows update" in the Start menu and the "Check for updates" shortcut would appear. It seems the shortcut has disappeared since one of the recent Windows updates were installed. Only two results appear: Programs: windowsupdateelevatedinstaller.exe and Settings: View Installed Updates. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? The shortcut still appears when I switch to the Windows 10 Start menu. |

Are you using an insider preview version? |

Nope. It is a full version of Windows 10 Pro. |

I searched for "windows update" on build 10586 and I see "Windows Update settings", "Check for updates" and more. They are under the "PC settings" group. Is it possible you unchecked "Search PC settings" checkbox in the settings? |

Nope it's checked. Only Search Files (disabled file indexing) and Search the Internet are unchecked, but those shouldn't have an effect on it. |

I think the problem appeared after KB3140743 (OS Build 10586.122) or KB3139907 was installed a few days ago. |

Unfortunately the search for files needs to be enabled. The "PC settings" are searched via the indexing service. I am currently installing the latest updates to see if they make a difference. |

Ya, you're right. I had it disabled because I'm using an SSD, but I guess I'll just leave it on then. Thanks! ![]() |
