Post subject:  Classic Shell Settings lost after restart

Hi all,

I am currently having problems with classic shell. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a solution in this forum / the faq or with google. Specifically all settings are lost after restarting my computer. After opening the classic shell settings and saving them everything will work until the computer is shut down / restarted. Then the process begins anew. I have atempted to reinstall classic shell several times but this hat not solved the issue.

System information:
Win 8.1 Pro 64bit
Classic Shell Version 4.2.5.
Anti Virus: tried with both windows defender and kaspersky av internet security. The problem persists.

I hope someone has encountered this problem before and knows a solution.
Kind regards,
tango

Your registry permissions might have been messed up by malware or some other program. Try creating a new user account and see if Classic Shell settings are retained in it.

Hi Gaurav,

thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately there are a lot of programs and files linked directly to the relevant user account and deleting it would cost more time than it would be worth. Are there specific registry entries that I could / should check?

Kind regards,
tango

The per-user settings are stored at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IvoSoft. Group Policy settings are stored elsewhere so you can use that too to configure Classic Shell. Group Policy settings lock down the Settings so they can't be changed.
