sorry, no crash dump, because don't know how to duplicate.

This is a new install of 4.2.5 on Windows 10. Did not reboot after installing.
Immediately after installing, i could see all recent items loaded into Recent Items. Fully loaded (15 items).
Then clicked Start Menu (Windows) in Classic Shell start menu. Then closed Windows and Classic Start Menus.
Then did various work, running MS Office, TED Notepad, etc.
About an hour later, checked Recent Items, and none of the previous items were there, and not all of the docs edited since installing Classic Shell. Contained only 2 items.

The "Recent Items" folder is maintained by Windows. Double-click on the Recent Items in the start menu, which should open that folder in Explorer. See if there are any document shortcuts there. If not, most likely you need to enable the recent documents feature in Windows.

Thx but from your answer it sounds like you either did not read, or did not understand my OP.

Well, I asked that you verify that the Recent Items folder in Explorer contains the items you expect. If not, then it is a Windows problem - the OS is responsible for adding shortcuts to your recent documents in that folder. If the folder has the items but they don't show up in the menu, then it is a start menu problem. I need to know which of the two is it before I can suggest any more troubleshooting steps.

Also, make sure you don't confuse jumplists with recent items. The jumplists are per application (Word, Notepad, etc) and are stored in a different place.

Number of items in Recent Items menu is increasing-- maybe it's just a post-install problem?

The folder and menu don't contain the same number of items, but maybe some of these filetypes can't display in the Recent Items menu?

Seems to be working fine. Folder shortcuts are excluded from the start menu (since they are not documents).
