I get the same on Server 2012. Tried different Start Menu styles and skins; also an uninstall - reinstall. The taskbar remains black.

PS Went back to version 3.6.5 which still works OK.

I was asking what Windows theme you are using - aero, high-contrast, aero light?
Also, see if toggling the "Disable taskbar transparency" setting in the Start Button tab makes a difference.

I was using the default Aero theme, but tried changing it to Windows Basic and Metro. Neither resolved the issue.

Tried disabling taskbar transparency, but this did not help either.

I have the same problem with classic shell 3.6.6
there is no time display in the task bar...the area is just black

if i install the previous CS version the time is then visible

I have tried changing other windows time settings for the clock but nothing seems to enable the time in the task bar with CS version 3.6.6

@adriaanvw: you keep talking about the skin - Aero, Basic, Metro. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking about the Windows theme in the Personalization settings - Windows, Earth, Flowers, High Contrast #1, etc.

@edmosc: What version of Windows are you using, what Windows theme you have (see above), and have you tried toggling the "Disable taskbar transparency" setting?

On some W8\Server 2012 OS's I have the same. This seems to be related to the new "Disable taskbar transparency" feature on the "Start Button" tab. Checking this box fixes the problem but you are force to no transparency on the taskbar. I only seem to get this to show up when I do a connection via RDP with no desktop composition enabled.

Are you saying that if you connect to Server 2012 with RDP and the desktop composition is disabled, and Classic Shell is not running, then you see transparent taskbar? And running Classic Shell breaks that?

Ivo,
I did some more testing and I tend to see this only since 3.6.6 on server 2012. Since these machines don't have local keyboards and mice all connections are over RDP. The first time I saw this was via a Sun Ray 2 thin client so I just thought the issue was to do with the reduction in the connection quality - i.e. no composition etc. However, I have retested to same server 2012 from a W8 desktop via RDP 8 and I sill get the black taskbar\hidden clock - unless I select the transparency check box - this fixes the issue. I have many other W8 desktops with CSM running 3.6.6 with decent graphics cards and I don't see this problem.
