I decided to switch to Windows 7 (downgrade rights FTW 8-)) and I still use classic shell due to the huge customization. I noticed though in my resource monitor there is a process under system writing to the disk (I like to know precisely why my HDD blinks if it starts blinking) and it shows that it is DataCache.db that is writing a decent amount.

Here's a screenshot:

Do you know what this could be caused by? I'm not really worried about a virus or anything, I just want to know why it's doing that.

The start menu keeps information about the menu items in this file - things like properties, icons, etc. The file gets updated every time you close the menu.
