Hi,

Installed classic shell 4.0.2 on my windows 8 machine. Setup classic shell to skip metro screen. Proceeded to create roaming default profile for network users.

When a new user logs in and gets the default domain profile settings, Classic shell is fine but when I click START SCREEN (for metro tiles) none of tiles show up! It is an EMPTY metro start screen. When I right click and select ALL APPS, the list is EMPTY!

I figured out that if you put your mouse into the bottom right for the windows pop up menu and then click SEARCH and start to type an app name, suddenly all the app icons show up on the START SCREEN and in the APPs list! It is fine after that.

So now I upgrade to Win 8.1, and recreate my default roaming profile, and reset my classic shell settings.

I log in as some network users and the same things happens, but now the SEARCH thing does not work! I can't see any metro tiles or the APP list.

What fixed this was I had to go to Classic Shell settings, and uncheck SKIP METRO SCREEN. All the Tiles and apps list came back! I re-checked it and all is now fine, the tiles and app list are still visible.

Either Classic shell has a glitch or Wind 8.1 or combo of both.

FYI.

Seems to be a Windows 8.1 glitch with roaming profiles. The Skip Metro screen setting up to Classic Shell 4.0.2 on Windows 8.1 merely toggles the OS setting to boot to desktop. Classic Shell does not affect the Start screen behavior or Modern apps, it only allows launching them.
