In version 3.6.8 (I'm using Windows 8), program no longer seems to remember last item selected in Shutdown dialog box.

Using program, select "Start" then click "Shut Down" -- the Shutdown dialog box appears. I know you can set the program to bypass this dialog box and shutdown immediately -- I don't want to do that (to avoid shutting down inadvertently).

I would like the "Shut Down Windows" dialog box to default to "Shut down". It used to default to this, now I'm always getting "Switch user" as the default.

In Windows 7, it was easy to change, you could simply customize the behaviour of this box using Windows' "Taskbar Properties" settings (accessed by right clicking the taskbar at the bottom of the screen then selecting "Properties").

Now that Windows 8 doesn't have the Start button, the "Taskbar Properties" settings do not have the "Start menu" tab anymore.

Is there anyway in Classic Shell to default the Shutdown dialog box to "Shut down"?

Thank you.

The Shutdown dialog box is not part of Classic Shell. I doubt there is any difference in behavior between 3.6.8 and older versions.
On Windows 7 the default can be changed from the Start Menu tab of the taskbar properties, but on Windows 8 - guess what, that tab is gone.
So no, I am unaware of a way to change the default. Quick search online only finds more people asking the same question. You may have some luck messing with the registry but I don't know where to start.

On Windows 8, the Group Policy setting works. Gpedit.msc -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Change Start Menu power button.

Thank you for the quick replies.

GauravK -- I did what you suggested. It worked once I made the settings change and then restarted the computer.

Thank you, much appreciated!
