I searched the forums to see if anyone else had this problem but didn't find an answer. It's a mystery to me why this happened, but all day today, each time the laptop sleeps or after screensaver, when I hit a key or the mouse to continue working, the screen is in Metro. I can't get desktop back by pressing logo+D and I have to restart again to get desktop back. I have tried to find a way to fix it but have been unsuccessful. I'm using W8 not 8.1.

Thank you

Can you try to launch some desktop program, like Notepad?

I don't know about that in Metro but on desktop I did use Notepad several times today with no problem. Frankly the only time I used Metro was the first day I owned the laptop and then I installed Classic Shell and never used Metro again. I've been fiddling with a couple of things the last hour or so but no luck so far. Thanks

I mean, when you are on the start screen and start Notepad, then it should go to the desktop. I want to know what happens if you do this when you are unable to enter the desktop via Win+D.

Also, if you uninstall Classic Shell, does the problem go away?
