Back with crazy thoughts, thinking inside the tile box.
Are Classic Shell developers, on anything to do with Win 8 tile start screen?
I don't know enough of the 8.1 updates in the pipeline, so my imagination is floating.
eg.
Is there a way to have a Classic Shell live tile as a shortcut,
and show say, the last 5 desktop programs used, or other info?
Or even be able to select an item in that live tile?

I don't think this is such a great idea. No Classic Shell user uses the weird metro screen, so I doubt I will use this feature. You can create one yourself, if you want.

Why yes. In a nut Shell- Escape to Shell shortcut!
You don’t know what it's like,
if I wander over to the giant movie Start Screen.
It's so big, looking from first row, that glasses not required.
So when I get totally dizzy in there,
I click the Escape to Shell shortcut, and say three times "there's no place like home",
and I'm back safe at home!

Seriously, it can be done right now - the shortcut tile, though not the internal live part.
Just have to download one of those start screen "Show Start/ Start Menu button.exe files from net,
use it the opposite way it was intended.
It was made as a visual clue to get to Start Screen. We can use it to link back to Classic Shell menu, instead.
All it does is emulate hitting the Win"flag" keyboard key.
After downloading the file, unzipping it, just right click it, when in desktop mode,
select "pin to start". Then delete the .exe file, if not required, as CSM provides similar button,
There will now be a shortcut on the Start Screen that will take one back to Classic Shell.
Hip Hip, Hooray! :P

The truth of the matter is of course,
as long as it is configured properly in the Controls tab,
of Classic Start Menu settings, mouse clicks, alternate keys, etc,
none of this extra baggage stuff is needed.
It is very configurable already.:D
I think i'm becoming a fan boy.
ps
Just dreamin silly routes to get to same location.
If one goes the same way to work each day,
gets kind of boring after awhile.

Why not add more confusion and make a metro app that looks like the gui of win95 so that everything looks like win95 but just an app ?
