So with the new textured taskbars, I'm doing my best to recreate the aesthetics of Vista and 7 for my 10 PC, but I'm missing the most important component. The texture for the aero glass.
Is there any way to extract the file from Windows? I have an old Vista computer lying around that I was hoping to get the source files from. I've tried looking around the internet and there's no good, transparent version of the original glass anywhere that I can use.

It is most likely an image resource in the aero.msstyles file.

Thank you, do you know how I might be able to extract the contents of it?

You will need some sort of resource editor, like Resource Hacker for example.

Thanks again! It took a while to find the exact file, but I got it! Now I have a pretty convincing Windows 7 taskbar.

Doesn't work too well with bright colors though.

Gather you are talking about the taskbar buttons?
In case you did not see it yet, there is a taskbar section that started up :

viewforum.php?f=21

Some people have tried with original and modded images to get that look as well, me included. :)

Oh no, the glass effect just doesn't appear very well on bright colors. I'll get a picture a little later!
