eRightsoft's Super
http://www.erightsoft.com/super

I use eRightsoft's Super

Its a bit tricky to download.. so:
  1. Scroll to the bottom of the 1st page, click "Start Downloading Super"
  2. Scroll down on the 2nd page and click "Download eRightsoft SUPER"
Actually, its pretty easy now, it used to be 3 pages, each page contained massive amounts of information on how to use it..

I think it was like that, because if you dont know how to use it or what you are doing, it can be a bit tricky, and alot of your conversions may fail

It's had a long history, and it started out a bit rough.. the developer seems pretty sincere, he offers one of the most amazing video editors on the internet, and does for free what the high-end ones you pay for cant even do

but, it does check for the latest version by default on start up, not sure if it can be turned off, there might be by now.. if not, you can use your firewall rules to block its access to the internet, if you like

and it seems to hate hotlinking or direct linking to the DL link, and the PHP Download link that hates Download managers, and i think is self-cycling through different addresses, and the DL link expires pretty rapidly... and I also suspect some installers will, after a certain date, corrupt itself, or claim to be corrupted after a silent version check perhaps... i havent confirmed that, since i have about 10 or 15 different versions on various computers... and because of the link cycling, it does appear occasionally to give false clickjacking warnings in NoScript, as some of the links are re-routed to avoid them being useful to anyone anywhere but on his site, at that moment... an if you are somewhere with a very slow connection, like a crowded hotspot, you may not be able to download it all.... so.. other than that.. i dont find that malicious.. just a little bit of a pain in the butt.. he always seems to be monkeying around with the way things work though.. so some of it could be temporary glitches..

the great thing about super is the codecs it comes with, just work perfectly for most media programs on your computer, without conflicts or problems.. it includes:

FFmpeg , MEncoder , MPlayer , x264 , MusePack (mpc) , Monkey's Audio (ape) ,
Shorten Audio (shn) , Tom's Audio Kompressor (tak) , True Audio (tta) , WavPack (wv) ,
libavcodec library (compiled inside FFmpeg and MEncoder) & the theora/vorbis RealProducer's plugIn

but you really need to read the instructions carefully, and know what you are doing..

for example, you need to manually know how to set the different containers, and which codecs are compatible with which containers, and which audio & video formats are compatible with which settings, and manually set your own ratios, sizes, qualities, etc, etc

its not that difficult, especially if you stick with a certain workflow, like from .DAT to AVI to MP4 H.264 etc

and it has formats for animated gif, series of stills, psp, ipod, etc..

by the time you get proficient with it, you will have learned everything there is to know about media encoding..

It also has Full Unicode support.. and is one of the fastest encoders, if you know what you're doing

you can Mux & Demux, combine files, split files, create IFO & BUPs

Prcoess Hacker (open source) http://processhacker.sourceforge.net
It can replace the Windows task manager, it's crazy-versatile and a must install install for me. It's Even better then Process Explorer.

Aomei Backupper (freeware) http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html
I'd much rather use this instead of any of the backup options that come with Windows or any others for that matter. What did I ever do without this? It's very clean, fast, stable and easy to use. It can do full, incremental or differential backups of a partition or the whole OS+boot partition. Restoration can be kicked off from within windows or from a peice of bootmedia. (You can even use Easybcd to make an Aomei boot ISO into a hard drive based boot option.)

Also Realcopy might be worth keeping an eye on, It's pretty good too and it was just announced that Ax64 is going to merge with Realcopy.

Post subject:  FAR Manager

Not exactly a windows mod, but for me it's one of the most used tools. :) It's a file/archive manager like Total Commander, with lots of options and plugins, but a console one, with look and feel of good old Norton Commander (remember that? :). Personally I often use command line (it's faster to type a short *command*, than browse endless menus), and a file manager combined with console is very useful.

See here: http://farmanager.com/index.php?l=en
The program is now freeware/open source.

P.S.: And, once again, great thanks for Classic Shell. The tool is absolutely awesome. :)

Windows 8 is so stupid.

Have to use:

- Classic shell to remove Metro the hell away from the pc (start windows on Desktop) \\ Install a windxp start menu;
- Windows Tiny Border (to lower stupid huge wind8 solid color border size);
- Windows Gadgets (get back what was on Wind7, so I can have CPU\GPU info on-the-fly);

- Still need a good real transparency mod like official Wind7 have.

ps: For me this wind8 is far worse than when Vista came out (I vote Win8 to be the worse PC OS EVER MADE. I don't even give a damn about it's stability, as if I really wanted the best of the best stability I would install Linux instead. ~M$ must learn improving stability is not a way to just simply make you have to buy a new stupid OS).

Post subject:  Software policy replacement for UAE

http://sourceforge.net/projects/softwarepolicy/

Basically a less intrusive replacement for user account elevation, no screen dimming, no aggro when changing control panel settings, and no problems with older non UAE-aware programs provided they follow Windows' guidelines as to where files should be stored. (which most do)

Uses software policies to restrict the places on disk where programs can be run from. With the policy in force, most installers will fail rightaway, keeping junk out. Optionally, running of programs from CD or USB memory can be blocked. To install wanted software, you unlock from a system tray icon. This gives you 30min of 'superuser time' with no more nags, after which it relocks automatically.

Runs selected processes (typically browsers such as Firefox/Chrome) as a restricted user, but with same settings and preferences as the regular account. Provided you have standard folder permissions this prevents the webpage from dropping files into system folders or various other malicious actions.

It is intended to be run with UAE off, you can run with UAE on as well for extra security, although in this case you will see a UAE prompt asking to allow SoftwarePolicy.exe to run at each startup.

Not yet tested on Windows 8.1 (will be soon)

Hostman
http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman

An essential tool that should really be installed before most other programs
Let's you easily block access to servers and malicious updates etc, by programs on your computer
Just google a specific software program for a list of servers and websites it uses to force updates, covertly make changes to itself, or whatever other kind of malware behavior otherwise good programs may try.

Also great for simply blacklisting websites etc.

Can also be used to block your OS from accessing its servers

You could do that by editing the host file directly, but this GUI helps you do it easier, with additions to save you typing time.

If adding bulk lists, the Hostman can open the hostfile directly for you to paste long lists in..

PortableApps
http://portableapps.com/

How about having a Windows OS that is completely Install free?

None of the Programs that work with PortableApps can be installed on your computer, they are only portable versions of well-known Programs, ported specifically to PortableApps

It also has its own Start Menu

This means that you can take your entire OS with you on a USB Key, and have it anywhere you plug it in... all the apps and programs and data intact, provided you save it all onto your same USB Flashdrive.

It also means you don't have to worry about all the security problems, all of the malware, or all of the problems that go along with full-installs.

I use this for running around to different computers in different offices, businesses or classrooms when giving lectures or training. It's like having your entire computer in a USB key. You can use everything you need, without leaving a footprint or needing to install anything that a computer you use may not have or need special permissions to access. Works great at libraries or public computers that don't give you access to anything.

I suppose it could even be made to work with WinPE, which would mean you could use it anywhere without an OS even.

Portableapps works best if you also keep all of your other portable versions of your favorite programs on the same USB key, so that you can use anything that is portable that you need, in case PortableApps itself doesn't have it available for download.

X-mouse Button control
Freeware
https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/xmousebuttoncontrol.htm

This handy program allows you to assign custom functions to your mouse based on what program is active, For example I have assigned win+scroll Up to increase the Volume. globally and have reconfigured the side buttons on my mouse to move between tabs in chrome. Configuration is a little tough, but once you get it configured Its quite useful.

StrokesPlus
Freeware
http://www.strokesplus.com/
Adds custom mouse gestures to windows. This software is highly customizable and can do anything from sending a hotkey when a gesture is made, to opening a specific website or program. It compliments X-mouse quite well, and allows an unlimited number of functions to supplement the few buttons available on a mouse. I would strongly suggest changing the default button to either middle click, or one of the side buttons on your mouse. (right click is likely to interfere with alot of games/software)

LOL, it sounds like the very crapware, that's trying to be avoided (no offense)
To me, it sounds like something that constantly runs in the background (eating up precious system resources) just waiting for you to try and install something. It would also need a list of the most common programs, and what they have bundled (unless it just tries to uncheck all checkboxes for all installers, which doesnt work since ive seen a few that say "Dont install crapwareX" and unchecking it causes it to be installed.

Unless you install 4-5 things a day, this really doesnt sound that useful.

Chrome extensions:
Since many people do use google chrome, i thought I'd add a post or 2 about the everyday extensions that are OFTEN useful.

Adblock - goes without saying..., though some ads have found a way to skirt through in recent years (and some sites go on lock-down until you disable it)
Fresh Start - session manager.. This extension saves all (or whichever tabs you select) as a session (actually it bookmarks everything, in a hidden folder, so it works across computers, or system reinstalls) It also has a crash recovery function, that can restore windows/tabs closed a day or 2 ago (which is very convenient when chrome occasionally looses tabs
Lazarus form recovery - This extension stores form data, (like really long forum post) so if you accidentally hit the back button, or close the tab. all that precious text isnt lost.
Clutter free - this extension ensures you dont open duplicate tabs. If your workflow is like me (with a hundred open tabs at a time) its quite easy to do.
PageArchiver - this extension requires a parent extension be installed on your computer, but it effectively converts webpages into single-file documents for offline viewing (and archival purposes)

Development of one of the best media players on Windows - Media Player Classic - Home Cinema has died: :o

Grab the last release here: https://mpc-hc.org/2017/07/16/1.7.13-re ... -farewell/
Of course, since it's open source, it can be forked. 8-)

Hopefully, MPC-BE (https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/) will live on and carry on the project's legacy.

P.S. VLC sucks.

FileMenu Tools is good but beware of the adware/crapware it bundles. With every version/update, it bundles new ways of installing crapware, some without option. I think crapware-bundling programs really suck. :D
Like Windows 10?
