I have been having a problem renaming and moving folders in Win 8.1 since the first week in February when I think I installed the latest version of Classic Start Menu. When you search for this issue, many support people are saying it is this software. There is a Folder Fix registry file that is out there, but it has not fixed the issue. Any new folder you create or any existing folder can not be moved or renamed, even if I created it. I am the only user and have full admin rights to all of these folders. Anyone else reporting this? You can move and rename files normally but no folders.

Download the Classic Shell Utility from here: http://www.classicshell.net/downloads/
Run it and send me the log file.

I don't see anything suspicious in the log file. Try this:
Open Regedit. Go to HKCU\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings
Create a new DWORD value named "DisablePinExt"
Set it to 1
Log off and log in
See if the problem gets fixed

This is not related to Classic Shell. This happens when the folder descriptions key is damaged. Download the REG file here: http://cid-fb5a28bc4a1cc9b6.skydrive.li ... ptions.rar and merge it into the Registry to fix the error.

Note: Since this is not related to Classic Shell, we bear no responsibility for what happens to your system from registry fixes. Always back up your full registry first using a tool like ERUNT or export the keys before you modify them.

Yeah I saw that about Windows Update KB2911106 also so I have removed that before I contacted you. I did the Regedit addition and still have the problem. I think I have also tried the folder description registry fix from Win 7 also but I am doing that now.

If you still suspect Classic Shell is the cause, of course you can uninstall it to remove any doubt. Your settings will be preserved if you choose to install again later.

I need to reproduce the problem first before I can fix it.

Also you need to confirm that the problem is caused by Classic Shell. Uninstall it and see if that improves things. If nothing changes then Classic Shell is not the reason.

Did you restart or at least log off after uninstalling Classic Shell? There may still be some active components until you close the current session.

OK, then all pieces of Classic Shell should be gone by now. That means something else is causing your problem. One possibility is the File Menu tool that you have installed. It sounds like the kind of tool to mess with context menus (renaming is a context menu operation).
