The first and second versions, although more accurate looking, were half and up to twice the size, and had issues.

OK. So the internal hex number for background color is same as in photo programs,
but the glass hex color , just needs the ends flipped, and wala, back to normal.

Ah, the jaggies. :)
Pixelformer can make that kind of dithered look, to blend the jagged pixels.
Use the brush feature, with hardness at 0, and size at 10 or more.
Or use the supersampling and ellipse tool.
Not sure what the pros use. Could have a more automated tool :?:

I just thought of way to make in an abtract way.
Put a picture of anything in image editor.
Select a one pixel wide strip of say 400 pixels high, in that picture.
Blur it, and paste on top of menu bitmap.
May have to try many times before becomes usable.
