thanks.. that did the trick. i was thinking i didnt want to disable the active corners that would bring up the charms menu or the currently running tasks, so i disabled all of them. thanks again!

yes, it is like the roll over is not working consistently. everything i am discussing will be on the desktop. i do not have another start menu replacement on the computer. i do not have 'hover' on. on my new Win 8.1 machine, hovering over the start button causes it to show either the CSM icon or sometimes the Start Menu icon. usually the CSM icon will open the CSM, but not always, sometimes it opens the metro screen. usually the Win 8 start menu icon will open the metro screen, but not always,...
