Thank you, that was indeed the problem.
I feel a bit stupid because I looked at this page before hoping to find a solution and still I missed this.

I installed and configured classic shell and everything worked well. Now I see that classic explorer just doesn't work anymore while classic start menu works just fine (I don't use classic IE9). I have probably restarted the computer several times since I installed classic shell and I can't say whet...
