I see. I never really noticed that the other options disabled it for everything since I just stuck with CS. Good to know.

I personally really like how KDE does it desktop sorting thing, (I think KDE 4 was the original "fence".) Hell, KDE is awesome all around. I have yet to find anything remotely as good as Klipper on Windows for one thing.

It is indeed enough, Classic Shell is in itself, more then enough. I just figured I'd ask since there is no way within CS to only enable the top left and top edge and nothing else. I did know about the windows options for the top corners. I did not know about the registry tweak to disable charms hin...

Some times its nice to have Composting turned off for old games or emus, specially for gaining back a frame of display latency in some cases. There still exists a way to disable Aero a.k.a. Composting in Windows 8.x, it involves suspending (not terminating) the process for winlogon.exe and then term...

Would it be possible to consider individual settings for each corner and the top edge as separate check boxes in the "Windows 8(.1) Settings" tab? I like using the top left corner and the top edge but not the charms bar or the bottom left corner. If not, there is always Skip Metro suite fr...

Touché. I'm hoping that CS will have an option to just not draw anything over the original icon, leaving it intact, though I have no idea how easy or hard that would be.

I just discovered that the white, normal state is slightly different. The anti aliasing on the real one has a slightly darker outline. I sourced mine from a start bar that was turned completely black against a black background, with these settings it should indeed look 1.1 but I am unsure of how to ...

Just tried the one I posted again, downloaded from this page, It aligns fine and no 1 extra pixel row up top. :/ Tried the 39+39+39 one, its one pixel row too low. I understand the hight of the bar is 40 but using a 40+40+40 png yeilds miss alignments with the real start button. If you enable the bo...

Hrm... on my system they align with the bar, not one pixel over or under. If I allow the Windows 8.1 button, and hover the corner, it appears exactly the same as the my CS button. Stock Win 8.1 64bit start bar settings and CS 3.90 on Windows 7 mode. Also aligns on VMware just fine. Your button sizes...

Yep, It's different on 7, I actually have to install updates for it to show up, it works properly. I'll try 8.0, now, (VMware is invaluable for testing things.)

Edit: It's only 8.1, probably worth waiting 'till the RTM comes out in less then a month.

Nope, doesn't install anything. That one update is available, its a defender definition update but I did not select it to be installed. If I install it, I still get the icon showing up, possibly due to 3 optional drivers being on the list of available but not selected to be installed. It's like the ...

When using a start button icon that has areas with complete transparency, right clicking on those areas produces the Win+X menu even if "Right click opens Win+X menu" is disabled.

Steps to create your own colours: 1. Open the colour template in a graphics editor that supports transparent png files. (Neopaint[shareware] is my favorite, Paint.net[free] works too.) 2. Flood fill the blue portion to whatever colour you want. 3. Use paste from file and select the alpha template. I...

*The hover and click states are ok, the normal state is not quite 1:1, (sorry.) See post #9 for details* Updated to (mostly) 1:1, it's now 1:1 exactly like 8.1s start button for the click and hover states and aside from tiny aliasing differences, just about so for the normal state. I got Glitter3's ...

Why are you double-clicking on the item in the first place? It is standard behavior everywhere in Windows that double-click opens stuff. I'm generally don't double click on that but on the real Windows XP/Vista/7 start button, you can't open an item that is set to show up as a menu unless you right...

1. You answered your question yourself. It is because Windows 8.1 handles closing of Metro apps differently than Windows 8. If you try to open them again from the Start screen, don't you see the same behavior? Nope, if I close them from the screen, they still appear as dormant processes in Process ...

This seems to be one of the only things left that Classic Shell can't replicate from the real start menu: On Windows Vista and 7, when you go to all programs or search for something, it gets shown in the left pane instead of a popout menu. Of course, having this be optional would be the best for peo...
