Thanks to everyone who reacting to my post. I meanwhile solved the problem: I bought my wife a new computer with Windows 8.1 and installed Classic Shell without any difficulty.

What does right clicking on the Start button and opening "Settings" from there do? Have you by accident disabled the Settings using Group Policy or Registry Editor? Check in the Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu to make sure there is no "EnableSettings&...

Is it possible that the exe is set to run as admin? It shouldn't be. I have tried both options: admin and user, but neither worked. Process Explorer shows that the program is loaded indeed, but the start button remains unchanged. Right clicking on it doe not show the settings option. When starting ...
